BrainGate is a Neural Interface System that allows severely disabled individuals - including those with traumatic spinal cord injury and loss of limbs - to communicate and control physical devices through thought.

The interface comprises a sensor implanted in the user's brain, which "reads" his or her thoughts, and a decoder, which turns those thoughts into instructions that a computer can interpret.

In the video below, a paralysed woman uses her mind to instruct a robotic arm to help her to pick up and drink a coffee:
