All they are saying is:
100*(x-(100-y)) + (100-x)(100-y) = xy

And if we open it up we get:
100x+100y-10000+10000-100x-100y+xy = xy

And after abbriviating we get:
xy = xy

A long and complicated and counter intuitive way of multiplying.
