NETRA: Low-cost mobile phone eye test 25 Jun 2010
The latest brainchild of MIT Media Lab uses one of the most rapidly proliferating technologies in the developing world - mobile phones - to bring eye tests to those who have previously been denied access to this critical health service. NETRA (Near-Eye Tool for Refractive Assessment), as the solution is called, uses a phone's LCD display and intelligent software to administer a quick, effective and accurate vision test that patients can perform anywhere.
