"Reaction [beta]"

The New York Times' Article Skimmer 17 Feb 2009

The New York Times has released an interesting new experiment that attempts to enable readers to skim their online news in the same way that readers can skim their physical broadsheet edition. The Article Skimmer, as it's called, works like so: You click a section heading in the navigation menu and all of the top headlines from that section appear in a grid in the main body of the page (along with their lead paragraphs and any key images).

Sure, it's slick, fast and you can see all of the top stories in your browser window without needing to scroll - but we're not convinced that it offers a much better "skimiming experience" than a simple laundry list of headlines. A good candidate for user testing then...
