Researchers at the University of Tokyo have demonstrated a device that uses focused ultrasound waves to create touchable, invisible floating "objects" out of thin air! The technology is still in its infancy, but think of the possibilities...like "holograms you can feel", for example!

As Gizmodo points out, there's a bit of catch though:
"the virtual objects won't provide much resistance or seem very hard, because at high enough levels the aurally imperceptible ultrasound will destroy your eardrums."
