The Blue Planet: Copenhagen's amazing new aquarium 1 Sep 2008

Due to open in 2013, Copenhagan's new aquarium - "The Blue Planet" - is modelled on a giant whirlpool. Drawing inspiration from the swirling currents of the ocean, Danish architecture firm 3XN has based its design around a circular central hall, about which a series of smaller rooms "whirl". The aquarium's giant glass ceiling will also refract "shimmering patches of light" onto the walls, so as to further intensify visitors' impression of being underwater.

Not sure that they have really captured the "whirlpool aesthetic". The image above looks more like one of those windmill-on-a-stick things that children carry around at the beach.
