The best pie chart ever! 22 Sep 2008

Designers and statisticians generally regard pie charts as a poor method of displaying information - Edward Tufte, for example, says that "the only thing worse than one pie chart is lots of them". This is because the rotation of their portions makes it difficult to gauge the figures that underpin them.

We too subscribed to this "pie charts are unusable" theory...until today, when we came across the pie chart below. How could anything other than a pie chart do a better job of representing the underlying data in this scenario ;-)

This pie chart is an actual pie, with the portion that's been eaten representing...er...the portion of the pie that has been eaten!
