Question marks over the design of Holeder earphones 22 Aug 2008

Yoonsang Kim's question-mark-shaped "Holeder earphones" aren't just pretty, they're functional too: They fit snugly in your ears when you're listening to audio, and can be hooked together to form a sort of necklace when you're not. Sweet!
Stop press: Apparently, the unique shape also prevents bacterial growth, which - according to the designer - is 700 times more concentrated in regular ear buds.

Surely the audio quality would be really bad. The whole point of wearing (normal) headphones/earphones is that they cover your ear canal and therefore force the sound deep into your ear/prevent as much of it as poss from escaping in the other direction. In the case of the earphones above, I'd bet that much of the noise disappears into the "outside world".
