iPhone Nano? 5 Aug 2008
The Daily Mail claims that Apple will release a Nano version of the iPhone by Christmas! The device will apparently allow owners to listen to music and make calls, but won't offer mobile internet connectivity. According to the report, it's Apple's attempt to take over the pay-as-you-go market...
The article also says "One expert suggested the nano phone would have a touch wheel on the back and display on the front so that numbers would be dialled from behind." Say what now?!
It all sounds a little strange to us...As BusinessWeek points out, there's a perception that only those with poor credit sign up for pay-as-you-go services. Thus, by targeting this market, Apple risks cheapening its cooler-than-cool brand...Then again, maybe Apple's cooler-than-cool brand will turn this negative perception around...It's also worth noting that the "classic" versions of the iPhone are pocket-burstingly large (especially the 3G version), so a lot of people might be tempted by a miniaturised Nano version...What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea to me. I have no doubt that Apple will overcome the negative perception surrounding pay-as-you-go plans.

Cobblers! Just look at the source for heaven's sake! This is a badly rehashed story based on an old rumour and an ancient patent filing. Can you imagine typing on a screen any smaller than the existing iPhone? Also think of all the apps that would have to be rewritten for the smaller screen.
The Daily Mail and it's Sunday counterpart have been posting lots of tech stories on their websites with sensational headlines in recent months. It seems more like a strategy to generate traffic from geeks like us than an attempt to provide any meaningful content.
Rant over. That will be all.
