Bank of America's Supercharged ATMs 5 Aug 2008

EverydayUX points us to this supercharged ATM. Note how the "Enter your PIN" screen gives users immediate access to $120, rather than forcing them through the typical "What do you want?" ("Cash") and "How much do you want?" ("$120") steps. Nice!
(We presume that Bank of America's decision to implement this feature was based on analysing customers' usage of their machines).

I'm not sure this is a good idea. If you're in a rush, you could easily mistake the "$120 Fast Cash" button for the "Enter" button and find yourself withdrawing $120 that you didn't need. Sure, it's not a huge amount to have to carry around with you as a result, but it would still be annoying.

I remember a similar function with Citibank back in... the 90s? It certainly wasn't $120 (which seems quite a strange number) - maybe $50? I don't recall seeing it this side of the millennium though. Perhaps Citibank's customer feedback / user testing revealed problems with the idea?
