Sense Networks' CitySense: Nightlife heatmaps 3 Jul 2008

Deciding where to go out on a night just got easier for the citizens of San Francisco. Sense Networks' new CitySense mobile map application gives them a real-time view of how busy the city is as well identifying where the hotspots are!
Interestingly, there's no need to sign-up to receive this service - users simply download the free application onto their Blackberry (iPhone support is coming soon) and can thereafter view a "heat map" of activity throughout the city (which is you can see is not unlike those produced by our eye tracking equipment). Users can also click on any hot spot to receive Yelp and/or Google information about the bars, clubs and restaurants that are generating the heat in that particular location.
Apparently, the next version of CitySense will be able to tell users not only where the activity is, but where people like them are congregated - a feature that will be achieved by tracking and comparing users' history and preferences.
