Contact Cover Flow for the iPhone? 8 Jul 2008

techAU proposes using Cover Flow for flipping through contacts on your iPhone. Initially, this sounds like a good idea. Given that human beings are much better at remembering faces than names, this would make it much easier to locate the number of people you only see once in a blue moon or have only met briefly once before, for example...However, there are a few issues. Firstly, many people will find it annoying to have to turn their phone on its side to select a contact and then turn it back upright to hold it to their ear every time they want to make a call. Secondly, how do you persuade all of your contacts to let you take their photo? And finally, isn't it easier to just start typing the name of the person you want to call and select that person from a list of search results?

Does anybody actually find coverflow useful? I mean it looks great in demos and stuff but does anyone really use it?
