The Train That Never Stops 25 Jun 2008

Noting that trains would be more efficient (and more frequently on time) if they didn't have to stop to pick up passengers, Taiwanese inventor Peng Yu-Lun invented "The Train That Never Stops". Now I expect that more observant readers will have already spotted a fairly major flaw in this concept - namely, "If the train doesn't stop for passengers, then how does anyone travel on it?" Fear not, however - Yu-Lun is way ahead of you. The design solves that problem with a kind of "top-mounted boarding shuttle that is scooped up when the train passes one station and automatically deposited when it reaches the next stop". See the video above to get an idea of how this would work in practice.

Genius! Make it happen!

Nice idea, but doesn't the single carriage "top-mounted boarding shuttle" limit the number of passengers that can get on at each station?

Hope that will happen soon, trains not in time are really boring for users ...

Great idea but as @zidge says you're limited by the size of the boarding shuttle. Plus people at the far end of the train will have to walk along the moving train to get to the shuttle when disembarking
