STOP....in the naaaame of love! 12 May 2008

In an attempt to curb the number of "stop sign jumpers", the city of Oak Lawn, Illinois added some extra information to its government-approved "STOP" signs. This information was packaged in the form of a number of additional signs that appended the word "STOP" with witty phrases like "and smell the roses," "right there pilgrim" and "means you're not moving."
The town's mayor and citizens were smitten with them. The Illinois Department of Transportation, however, claimed that they were in violation of the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and subsequently threatened to pull federal funding for all projects in the city until they were removed. These humorous signs were therefore pulled down immediately.
