The makeshift MRI 11 Apr 2008

A couple of researchers at Harvard have built a MRI scanner using a cardboard tube, some coils of wire and whole bunch of other stuff you can pick up at your local hardware store. Incredibly, this makeshift MRI does a better job of imaging the lungs than the vastly-more-expensive, traditional MRI machines found in hospitals around the world!
