Meta keywords are dead! 28 Apr 2008

A US court has deemed meta keywords "immaterial" in relation to their effect on search engine rankings. This decision was reached during the Standard Process Inc. vs. Banks case which came to court earlier this month - Standard Process had filed suit against Dr. Scott J. Banks for trademark infringement, claiming (amongst other things) that Banks had included one of its trademarks in his website's meta keywords tag. The judge, however, ruled that, since meta keywords do not influence search results, any trademarked terms included within them are immaterial.

Looks like the courts are getting more clued-up to the workings of the web then...
