Jiyeon Song's "One Day Poem Pavilion" 24 Apr 2008

Jiyeon Song's "One Day Poem Pavilion" is an outdoor installation that uses daylight to produce poetry. The complex array of perforations in the pavilion's surface produces shifting patterns of light that spell out the different lines of the prose at different times, according to the solar calendar. During the summer solstice, the poem reflects the theme of "new life", while during the winter solstice, it reflects "the passing of time". Within the pavilion, the poem can be read between 8am and 4pm each day, with each line appearing for about an hour.
(Sadly, the explanatory website is largely written in pretentious art-speak and is extremely unresponsive. Shame.)

An incredible piece of work. Just thinking about the planning involved in placing the holes is enough to make my head spin.
