ApriPoko: Toshiba's universal remote bot 11 Apr 2008
We've been meaning to write about ApriPoko for some time...but there's not much point now, since you can just watch the video below to get an idea of what it does / how it works. All that needs to be said, by way of an introduction, is that ApriPoko is Toshiba's cutesy robot universal remote control that learns by watching what you do and asking you questions about it. For example, if you press a button on your TV remote control, ApriPoko will sense the infrared signal and say "What did you just do?". When you then reply with something like "I turned on the TV," it will commit this phrase to memory, and you can use it thereafter as a voice command. Pretty sweet, eh?

"...the robot has been designed to look somewhat like a baby with its large, round body, small and fat wings ..."
Would someone like to tell the reporter that the things he has been calling 'babies' are actually called 'parrots'?
