Padded lampposts 10 Mar 2008

Padded lampposts are being trialled in London's Brick Lane to protect inattentive pedestrians. Apparently, Brick Lane has the highest number of "walking and texting" injuries in the country! Another great example of the unanticipated side-effects associated with the introduction of new technologies.

And a great example of a nanny government? Haha

Let your kids play in dirt: they'll develop immunity to diseases and be healthier throughout life. Let your citizens walk into hard lampposts: their heads will hurt and and they'll learn not to text and walk ... into lampposts. :-)

@Brent: I agree with you...although, I guess the government might argue that padded lamposts are worthwhile if they reduce the number (and cost) of "walking and texting"-related injuries that need to be treated by the NHS.
