St. Petersburg is domed (I tells ye!) 5 Feb 2008
...Well not quite...however St. Petersburg has taken the first steps towards becoming the world's first glass-domed city.
British architecture firm Wilkinson Eyre - best known for the design of the Gateshead Millenium Bridge in Newcastle - has just unveiled plans to shelter Apraksin Dvor, an old market district in the centre of the city, under a giant glass roof.

Sounds great, but what about snow? Sure, it would thaw eventually, but it would be very dark on those streets until then!
