Apple's advanced multi-touch gesturing control panel 19 Feb 2008

An illustration showing the gestures necessary to perform Copy, Cut, Paste, Undo, Select All, Tab, and Cancel actions.

Following on nicely from yesterday's post on mouse gestures, we find that Apple has begun exploring the use of advanced multitouch gestures. A recent Apple patent application authored by Wayne Westerman of Fingerworks shows mockups of a Mac OS X gesture-enabled control panel with options to configure standard trackpad, basic multi-touch, and advanced multi-touch settings. The application shows how users will be able to perform common operations like Copy, Cut, Paste, Undo, Select All, Tab, and Cancel using gestures composed with a thumb and two fingers (see image above).
