"Reaction [beta]"

Yahoo! Mash's "viralsuckiness" 9 Jan 2008

Peter Van Dijck reports that Yahoo! Mash (Y!s equivalent of Facebook) goes beyond allowing users to "invite your friends" in its attempts to "go viral". Instead, it lets them create a profile on your behalf, telling you - the unsuspecting recipient - that "X created a profile for you - claim it!".

Great! Now we have to manage profiles that we didn't even create. Way to take control of our identity out of our hands!

Wow! That really sucks! I bet it gets people to their site though...

Keef: I agree - especially if these profiles are indexed and made public by search engines - you almost have no choice but to go and see what your friend has written about you.
