Hitachi Starboard: A giant multi-touch interface 14 Jan 2008

Hitachi demo'ed a new multi-touch user interface called Starboard at the CES last week (see video clip above). If you've seen Jeff Han's work, you're unlikely to be impressed with the gestural input that it allows. However, what's interesting about Starboard is that it is projected, so you don't need to buy a touch-sensitive LCD display to use it. This means that it can scale to very large sizes too (while the video clip above shows Starboard at monitor size, Hitachi were also showing a wall-size version at the show)!
