Anything and Whatever: Soft drinks for the undecided 25 Jan 2008

Ever found yourself paralysed by the "Paradox of choice" when asked what you'd like to drink? Well, fear not, Singapore-based company Out of the Box now fills this need with two non-committal beverages called "Anything" and "Whatever".
"Anything" is fizzy and comes in six flavours (Cola with Lemon, Apple, Fizz Up, Cloudy Lemon and Root Beer); while "Whatever" is non-carbonated (Ice Lemon Tea, Peach Tea, Jasmine Green Tea, White Grape Tea, Apple Tea, Chrysanthemum Tea). The surprise part? Consumers don't know which flavour they're getting until they take a sip.

These brand names really capture the essence of what it means to be a teenager today ("Clean your room!" "Whatever!"). It's no wonder that the products are so successful with the Singaporean youth - they speak their language.

How do they get away with not telling their customers what's inside? Surely, that's illegal.

Zidge: Sprinwise says that each can has a generic list of ingredients on it - e.g.. carbonated water, sugar, permitted flavouring, permitted colouring, preservative, tea extract, fruit juice concentrate.
