Heathrow to get world's first Personal Rapid Transport system 21 Dec 2007

London's Heathrow airport is set to install the world's first Personal Rapid Transport system. The PRT is a fleet of 18 driverless pods that will serve business passengers flying into and out of Terminal Five. Traveling at up to 25mph along suspended "guide ways", the pods will ferry passengers between their cars and the terminal building. The airport claims there will never be more than an 18 second wait, no delays due to congestion and no need to mingle with the cattle-class riff-raff. Construction and installation is scheduled for completion in less than two years.
