"Reaction [beta]"

Google Knols 14 Dec 2007

Last night, the official Google blog published a game-changing post about a new project that's currently in closed, private beta. The program known as "Knols" (a "Knol" being a "unit of knowledge") lets users write reference pages on any topic (via a bespoke content creation tool). These pages are then open to contribution from the wider community and are included in Google's search results. Authors can even choose whether they want ads to appear on their pages and are eligible to receive a "substantial revenue share" if they do.

Does this spell the end for Mahalo, Squidoo and...dare we say it...Wikipedia (Remember that Google points users to Wikipedia 27% of the time - so losing its domination of Google's search results would be a big blow).
