A preview of HTML 5 5 Dec 2007

This month's A List Apart has a great preview of HTML 5. It's well worth a read, but remember: work on this specification began in 2004 and, if current estimates are anything to go by, it won't be complete for another 10-15 years! As such, it's quite possible that the features discussed in ALA's article will undergo some degree of change.

As the WHATWG HTML5 FAQ indicates features will be usable sooner. Just as CSS2 features are useful without CSS2 being finished.

Anne: Thanks for clarifying...Doesn't this fragmented feature-by-feature release approach create variability in the level of support offered by different browsers though? Just as a similar fragmented approach has seen varying levels of support for CSS2's pseudo elements and classes, etc. and therefore only low-level adoption amongst mainstream web developers?

(I must confess, I'm not sure what a better approach would be - it goes without saying that waiting until 2022 to start using HTML 5 isn't practical.)
