A Blind Call: Accidental charity 6 Dec 2007

A cell phone showing 'A Blind Call' as the first entry in its contacts list.

We all do it: forget to lock our cell phone's keypad and accidentally call the first person in our contact list. Our unfortunately-named pal Aaron says that he receives a couple of these calls every single day - and, while you would imagine that he'd enjoy listening to the sounds of our pockets, it turns out that he actually finds it quite annoying.

Well, fear not Aaron, your problems may soon be over - because Belgian ad agency Duval Guillaume has devised a clever campaign that turns these accidental calls into charitable donations to the Belgian League for the Blind.

DG's campaign asks people to add "A Blind Call" to their list of contacts (for our Belgium readers, the phone number is 070 22 22 60), which, due to the alphabetical properties of this moniker, sees it enter the directory in first position. Every time the number is accidentally called thereafter, the Belgian League for the Blind recieves a cut of the call's proceeds. Calls are cut off after 30 seconds, so the cost to the dialler is never more than €0,75.
