Users prefer free stuff, apparently 6 Nov 2007
According to a Direct Marketing Association (DMA) study, when given a choice about how web content should be paid for, the vast majority (72 percent) of web users prefer that websites not charge them (and rely on advertising for revenue instead).
Like duh! What have we learnt from this study, other than that users prefer free stuff? Come on fellas, pull your socks up ;-)

So 28% of users prefer to be charged than see ads? I'd say that's surprisingly high.
