QR codes play an integral part in the Pet Shop Boys' new video 11 Oct 2007

We just noticed that the Pet Shop Boys' new video - "Integral" - includes embedded QR codes!

QR codes are two-dimensional bar codes that can be decoded at high-speed ("QR" stands for "Quick Response"). What's great about them is that they can be used to encode URLs - which means that anyone with a camera phone (and the relevant QR-decoding software) can snap a photo of one and be transported to the associated web page immediately. The Pet Shop Boys' QR codes transport music fans to web pages on the subject of personal freedom and civil liberties, for example (as "Integral" is a critique of the Big Brother surveillance state we live in).

Interesting stuff and worth a try with your own phone since QR-decoding software is installed by default on most new mobile devices (If it isn't installed on yours, you can download it here).
