Starbucks brings drinks to your laptop 7 Sep 2007

We've often wondered how profitable it is for Starbucks to offer wi-fi. Sure, it gets wireless workers through the door, but doesn't it dissuade them from leaving their table to order a second cup of joe for fear of having their laptop nicked in their absence?

Well, it seems like Starbucks have now recognised this problem. Iain Tait spotted this message on his local cafe's wi-fi registration page:

Starbucks' wi-fi registration page reads 'And why not try a Caramel Macchiato if you fancy a treat...PS. Don't forget that any of our partners will be happy to help if you would like another beverage and don't want to leave your laptop.'

...it's certainly a start. But when the counter gets busy, we'd bet that this waiter / waitress service is soon forgotton. Shame, given that this customer group spends more time "in-cafe" than almost any other.
