Yahoo reports that Nielsen/NetRatings is to scrap the page-view-based rankings system that's long comprised the industry's webpage yardstick, in favour of tracking the length of time visitors spend at sites. This move had been predicted for some time and is the result of the impact of new technologies - like online video, Flash and AJAX - that allow users to conduct all of their affairs within a single web page.
