Open source logo 23 Jul 2007

An ice cream store and delivery truck with Tux - the Linux penguin - livery.

An ice cream company in Westminster, Colorado, has co-oped Tux, the penguin of Linux logo fame. Does this mean that their ice cream recipes are open source? Sadly not, it seems.

(Will be interesting to see how the open source community responds to this. On the one hand, an open source logo makes sense for an open source product. On the other, if too many companies appropriate it, it will dilute Linux's brand identity.)

This isn't the first time Tux has been ripped off either. He also famously appeared in "Al Gore's Penguin Army".
