Safari for Windows 12 Jun 2007
That's right. A Windows-flavoured version of Safari was released yesterday.
While, for web developers, this may seem like just another browser-platform combo to test sites with, it should be great for users and makes perfect business sense for Apple. In addition to extending the browser's reach, Safari for Windows will also make it easier for PC-based web developers to write apps for the iPhone. And as Daring Fireball points out "It's not widely publicized, but those integrated search bars in web browser toolbars are revenue generators. When you do a Google search from Safari's toolbar, Google pays Apple a portion of the ad revenue from the resulting page...My somewhat-informed understanding is that Apple is currently generating about $2 million per month from Safari's Google integration. That's $25 million per year. If Safari for Windows is even moderately successful, it's easy to see how that might grow to $100 million per year or more."
On a related note, Apple relaunched its website yesterday too.
