Mark Weiser on computer jargon 16 May 2007
Reto Wettach points us to a great quote from Mark Weiser, one of the most important thinkers in the field of Physical Interaction Design:
"It [the computer] is approachable only through complex jargon that has nothing to do with the tasks for which which people actually use computers. The state of the art is perhaps analogous to the period when scribes had to know as much about making ink or baking clay as they did about writing."
The quote above is taken from Weiser's 1991 paper "The Computer for the 21st Century". We find it quite depressing that it still resonates 16 years later :'-(

Guys do you really think that people would write such things about their personal life? Don’t lie to yourself!
