Hire greeters, not bouncers 3 Apr 2007

Rich Brooks at Flyte Blog on Spam Arrest's Sender Verification process:
"Imagine you're walking down the street and you see something in a store window that catches your eye. You walk to the front door and there's a sign that says, 'No Browsing. Serious shoppers only.' Or maybe there's a bouncer and he asks to see a credit card or some cash to make sure you're a legitimate customer, and not just killing time, or worse, plan on shoplifting.
"How welcoming would that be? Even at stores that market their exclusivity, I imagine this would be a big turnoff for most people. I suspect few retail shops require this type of proof-of-(future)-purchase.
"Yet, businesses have no problem treating online prospects with the 'guilty until proven innocent' mentality."
Reminded us of the whole Wikipedia nofollow debate. When will companies learn that spam - whether email, posts or links - is their problem, not their users'?

Man I hate those things. They alway make me think twice about sending an email to the person/company in question.

I had been a loyal and paying customer of Spamarrest for some time, recently their service has been erratic and I lost a number of important messages. After not receiving adequate support I decided to cancel my recently renewed account and asked for a refund of the unused portion. Here is their response:
Hi David,
Thanks once again.
David, I am very sorry to tell you that we are not able to offer you a refund for your account. You may continue to use your Spam Arrest account till 2008-10-01 by reactivating the account.
I truly apologize for your inconvenience, David. Please do let me know if you need anything else.
Best Regards,
Peter
