HRP-2 7 Mar 2007

HRP-2 is the latest "humanoid" from Japanese company Kawada Industries. The clip above shows HRP-2 performing a traditional Japanese dance, and various other tasks, with incredible grace and agility. It even makes a decent cuppa apparently!

More videos of HRP-2 - showing it helping someone carry a table, walking over uneven terrain and fixing a panel to a wall - are available from AIST's Humanoid Robotics Group.

1) A robot can never harm a human.
2) A robot must obey all human orders unless it conflicts with the first law.
3) A robot must protect itself unless it conflicts with the first two laws.

... Throw in Will Smith and a virtual bad guy (or gal) and there might be a good idea for a movie here!
