Google Maps shows traffic in real-time 1 Mar 2007
Google Maps is now showing real-time traffic information for 30 major US cities - including San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Dallas.
To see these data, simply switch to the "Map" or "Hybrid" mode and click on the new "Traffic" tab. This will reveal a new layer showing current traffic speeds. As the Google Blog announcement says "If your route shows red, you're looking at a stop-and-go commute; yellow, you could be a little late for dinner; green, you've got smooth sailing."

I can't wait until someone does a mashup with a "report a speed trap" functionality where a user can dial a number with his phone and it loads a marker on the map with a big siren.

Doug: Haven't seen a "speed trap" mashup just yet, but it can't be too far away as there are quite a few "speed cam" mashups out there.
