"Reaction [beta]"
3.14am 22 Mar 2007
Google Personalized Homepage became a little more customisable on Monday with the introduction of six playful "themes". Choosing Beach, Bus Stop, City Scape, Sweet Dreams, Tea House or Seasonal Scape changes Google's page header, colours, icons, buttons and links accordingly - if you choose Bus Stop, for example, you see people waiting for a bus.
The themes are also dynamic, updating in response to the current time of day, weather conditions and season - if you choose Beach, for example, you'll get to watch the sunrise if you login early enough. But that's not all...
...If you're online at exactly 3.14am, you'll see a special theme-specific easter egg.
If you've chosen the Beach theme, for example, you'll see nessie surface in your page header...

...If you've chosen City Scape, you'll witness an alien abduction...

...And if you've chosen Sweet Dreams, you'll see a Pi constellation...

...and that's presumably where 3.14am came from (Pi = 3.14159...).
