The original 1983 Microsoft mouse 5 Feb 2007

The original 1983 Microsoft mouse - essentially a white block with two green buttons on its sloped front.

Don't know about you, but this makes me kinda sad. I'm using the 2006 edition to pull together this blog entry and I can't help thinking that we haven't really moved on that much in the last 24 years. OK, so these days we have scroll-wheels, optical technology etc., but when you look at how video game controllers have changed over the same period...

Some will say that the two-button mouse is a design classic and therefore doesn't need to modernise. But until we get the RSI / ergonomic issues sorted, I don't think I can agree with that.

Oh that's *nothing*... I want one of Doug Englebart's originals! Imagine pushing one of these round your desk - it looks like a cross between a 1960s toaster and a coffin!

Yes, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks we can build a better mouse. I'm always struggling with carpal tunnel.
