The Wall Street Journal also reports on the "backlash brewing against boutique hotels". It seems that customers that were once making resevations solely on the basis of the style of these establishments, are now just as interested in good service. There's also a great quote regarding the phones in the Chicago W hotel:
"Instead of typical buttons for the fitness center or the valet, it had 'Sweat' and 'Wheels.' I couldn't figure it out for a couple of minutes,' Mr. Bynum says. 'I was like, I just want my car.' Next time, he says, he just wants a Westin."
