Flickr madness 1 Feb 2007
We can hardly believe this is true but...
When Thomas Hawk tried to add a contact (called "The Searcher") on Flickr, he received the following message from the Flickr team
"Add The Searcher as a contact?
"Slow down there buddy...
"You have reached the limit for the number of contacts a user can have. To add another contact, you must first get your total number of contacts under 3,000. Right now you have 5,082 contacts."
...That's right - not only is Flickr limiting the number of contacts its users can add, it's also telling its most active users (typically the early-adopters that helped push the company into the mainstream and ultimately towards its multi-million dollar acquisition by Yahoo!) to delete them. Isn't Flickr supposed to be a social networking site?
As you can imagine, Flickr users are extremely upset.

This is no big deal. Who the hell needs 3,000 contacts anyway? Only myspace-type saddos who enjoy the ego-trip.

It's arguable as to whether anyone really needs more than 3,000 contacts. However, it seems that many people have more than 3,000 contacts and want to keep them. Therein lies the problem.
