"Your WLAN switch is not turned on" 22 Jan 2007

Christian Watson describes the baffling error message he received when trying to connect his brand new PSP to his wi-fi network.

While the term "WLAN" may be obvious to Sony's engineers, it seems that it isn't so obvious to users of their products. For all they know, it could be a reference to the WLAN-FM - the "Hit Music (Radio) Channel" based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The message also fails to inform users as to why the switch needs to be turned on (i.e. to enable wireless connectivity) or where to find that switch ("Do I need to go get my screwdriver?").

Watson recommends editing the message to read as follows:

"Your PSP's WLAN switch is not turned on. (Hint: It's on the left hand side of your PSP)."

I even had to check what PSP was in this context ... which just goes to further prove your point! Hope all is well with you - speak soon.
