Australia Day website is in-aus-cessible 30 Jan 2007
Last Friday was Australia day, the day when our cousins from down-under "come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian". To coincide with this event the Australian Government and the National Australia Day Council produced an accompanying website: www.australiaday.gov.au/. Unfortunately, it's pretty much inaccessible. (Surprising when you consider that Australia is the country that produced the most often cited legal case in the history of web accessibility and as a result has some of the strictest accessibility-related legislation in place.)
iQ Content has a nice summary of the issues - including missing alt texts, poorly titled links and dodgy semantics - and provides screen-shots from JAWS to illustrate the mess the site causes for blind users.
