Have you ever found yourself swearing at the monitor, slamming your mouse or physically attacking your computer when faced with a badly designed website? If so, you might be suffering from a new medical condition known as Mouse Rage Syndrome (MRS).
A recent study undertaken by the Social Issues Research Centre (SIRC) found that websites that are difficult to navigate, slow to load or display excessive advertising can lead to quickened heart rates, increased sweating and pounding headaches.
The study revealed that the websites of Canon, Selfridges and Ryanair were the most likely to bring on MRS, while the websites of Amazon, BBC News and British Airways were thought to offer a relatively stress-free experience.
So what should you do if you think you're experiencing symptoms of MRS? The SIRC suggests that you "seek alternative websites in a bid to avoid undue stress".

Selfridges has got to be one of the worst sites on the net. You can't buy anything from it and the information architecture is an absolute 'mare.

I think the 'standards' are getting set by the most popular sites. People expect a site to be laid out and to navigate 'like Amazon' or searching facilities 'like Google'. Anything slightly different and the average user experiences difficultly finding things because it's not what they're used to.
You can try as hard as you like to deviate from the 'norm' but it's a risky business . . .

I think I suffer of this condition. I've broken a monitor, two mouses and 4 keyboards just for some stupid reasons. I'm not usually a violent person and I can control my rage but when I'm looking for something that should be there and it's not...I tend to go mad.
