Are you are a Wikipediholic? 20 Dec 2006

On Monday, we congratulated you on "your outstanding contribution to the growth of user-generated Internet content", but in generating all this content have you become an addict?

In a recent article for New Scientist magazine, Richard Fisher describes how thousands of internet users have become addicted to "social networking" websites such as Flickr, MySpace and Wikipedia.

Take Bryan Derksen, a Canadian salesman, for example. He is thought to have edited more than 70,000 Wikipedia entries in his spare time. And he's not alone. There are believed to be more than 2,400 "Wikipedians"
(contributors to the collaborative encyclopaedia) who have edited more than 4,000 pages each.
