The Cupertino effect 17 Nov 2006
"The Cupertino effect" is a term used to describe the incorrect spellcheck suggestions that make it into final documents. The name comes from the appearance of the word "Cupertino" in numerous EU, UN and NATO documents in place of "cooperation". For example:
"The fact that Secretary General Robertson is going to join this session this afternoon in the European Union headquarters gives you already an idea of how close and co-ordinated this Cupertino is and this action will be." (NATO Press Point, 19 Mar. 2001)
