Capability vs. usability 24 Nov 2006

Luke Wroblewski makes some interesting points about capability vs. usability. According to a Harvard Business Review article, people judge the quality of products based on number of features if they've never used them before. Having used them however, they will choose easy-to-use products over those with many features.

This creates a dilemma for us designers. In order to maximise initial sales you need to produce products with many features. But in order to maximise repeat sales and maintain customers satisfaction, you need to prioritise ease-of-use over features :-S
